Q: Who or What is Fred the Dot?

A: Fred is a being from a world not unlike our own. Same problems, same issues, same crap. As it has been said of the two major political parties, same shite, different piles. He is a dot in pain.

Q: So, he's not human?

A: Not only is he not human, he does not exist in the same dimension as us, so does not know the meaning of the term, "human."

Q: But, he is somewhat based on you?

A: Yeah, just as are most of the characters based on people I know. Well, loosely.

Q: And you are human?

A: Close enough.

Q: Why "Fred"?

A: I chose the name Fred after a childhood friend. Beyond that, there is no connection.

Q: How long have you been doing FTD?

A: Closing in on three years. Not regularly. No where near as much as I should. Working on that.

Q: Is Aaron Springer your real name?

A: According to my birth certificate, yes. I was not born a Springer, though.

Q: Any relation to Jerry? Or the Aaron Springer who works with Spongebob Square Pants?

A: Not likely, and, again, not likely. Related in the way that all Johnsons are related.

Q: What made you start writing this series?

A: My Beatrice left.

Q: Ah, so Beatrice is based on your ex-wife?

A: Only loosely.. the actions in the comic are fiction. That, and she is not a rounded rectangle.

Q: I want to be a cartoonist. What do I do first ?

A: Ask someone with artistic talent. I'm a hack with a sense of humor.

Q: Are all your characters based on someone in real life?

A: No. Some are completely made up.

Q: Which ones?

A: Not telling.

Q: Doesn't Fred look a little like a famous video game character?

A: No, not at all. Not even remotely. Drop it. It's a coincidence.

Q: So, let me get this straight. These things are shapes that have relationships, sex, do drugs, and basically live life like people do, and have the same problems and issues people do, and the same emotions..?

A: Uh, yeah.

Q: Why?

A: I would say because, but the real answer is "Why not?"
